Our Authors
Reading
The Reading and Writing Development department is a unique aspect of Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing (BQFP) not found at many other commercial publishing companies and reflects the shared value of community engagement promoted by the Qatar Foundation. In addition to promoting books by authors visiting Qatar throughout the year, BQFP promotes a thriving literary culture through a variety of reading groups including large group and members clubs. These various programs feature not only BQFP or Bloomsbury Publishing Plc UK books but any book that would appeal to the reading audience in Qatar.
Shared Spring Reading 2011: Zuma's Bastard

Mixed Book Club
The ‘mixed’ book club brings together women from the expatriate and Qatari communities in a small group setting to read a book of their choice. The group has two meetings each session: The social which is the first meeting when members meet one another and the discussion, the second meeting when the book is discussed either with the author when he/she is in Qatar or amongst themselves. In the past the Four Seasons Doha has been a sponsor of several sessions of the mixed book clubs. Past titles in 2009 – 2010 have included Sharon and My Mother-in-law by Suad Amiry and Minaret by Leila Aboulela. Membership is on a rotating basis and when new spaces open up (there are a total of ten possible participants at any given time). To place your name on the waiting list for the Mixed Book Club, email bqfp.events@qf.org.qa with MIXED BOOK CLUB In the subject line.
Shared Summer Reading
Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing invites you to participate in the 2nd annual Shared Summer Reading program.
Nothing to Lose but Your Life by Suad Amiry
She stands in front of the mirror, trying to hide her womanly curves and fully aware that she is about to expose herself to danger. A tomboy at heart, driven by adventure and a desire to understand what her less privileged compatriots go through, architect and university professor Suad Amiry has decided to disguise herself as a man and cross the Israeli border illegally to seek work in the Israeli town of Petah Tikva. The 18-hour journey that she braves with Murad and his brother Mohammed starts with a bumpy late night ride in a bus crammed with other illegal workers – all men –whose endless stories are both horrifying and amusing.
